Meet the 2005 Volunteers!

Abigail Christman, CVT, VTS(ECC)

I was born and raised in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. I earned my first degree (a BA in Journalism) at Colorado State University, and went back to school shortly thereafter to pursue veterinary nursing (my true passion). I have been  involved in veterinary medicine for 9 years, working as an emergency and critical care nurse at a hospital in Longmont, Colorado from 2000-2005. I recently accepted a position as a nurse in the Critical Care Department at Colorado State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. I also taught veterinary anesthesia to vet tech students for two years. In 2004 I sat for and passed my certifying and became a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care.

I fell in love with greyhounds many years ago and have been rescuing them since 1996, when I brought home the love of my life, a beautiful boy named Freddy. Freddy inspired the rescue and rehabilitation of many many greyhounds and other breeds of dogs. Freddy and his older sister Lila passed on to the rainbow bridge this past winter. I currently have 8 dogs and 3 cats. The greyhounds are Calamity Jane, River, Kiwi, and Wyatt Earp. I also have two chows named Ginny and XyXy, as well as a Samoyed named Husker and a German Shepherd named Annie Oakley. Khali, Joplin and Shaemus are the cats.

I have been dreaming of going to Spain to work with galgos for many years, and this fall’s mission is a dream come true. I would like to thank everyone who made this trip possible on behalf of my entire team.

Jason Cordeiro, VMD

I grew up in New Jersey (and not ashamed of it), went to college in Ithaca, New York, and veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. I did an internship in San Diego (during which I fell in love with emergency medicine) and moved to Colorado soon afterwards to climb mountains and learn how to snowboard.

I have a (mentally challenged) 2 year-old shepherd/greyhound named Peekay (after the main character in a novel called “Power of One” which I HIGHLY recommend); a 4 year old cat named Soupiebutte (because she had diarrhea for the first two months of her life) - Soupiebutte definitely wears the pants in our family; and the newest addition to our brindle family is an approximately 1 year old evil tortie named Pimapants who fell off someone’s roof in Longmont, CO, got jumped by two St. Bernards who tried to play tug-of-war with her, and was then brought in to the emergency clinic I work for.

I am a vegetarian and enjoy hiking, playing guitar (and open mic. In Lafayette, CO where I live), reading, and playing Play Station 2 (in moderation, of course).

Dr. and Mrs. Jacob Head - they work as a team in everything that they do. Together they have 2 children, 2 dogs, 2 cats and a fish. They enjoy traveling and they make an impact wherever they go. Full of a fire and a zest for life the two of them are a great combination for a task like Scooby.

Dr. Jacob Head is an Emergency Veterinarian at a specialty referral center. He graduated in1998 from CSU and has been practicing small animal medicine since. He co- owns a small greeting card company with his wife Jolene and owns a green home building company. Jacob is looking forward to the challenges in Spain and is inspired by the chance to help in any way he can.

Jolene Head is a Veterinary Technician and Certified Massage Therapist.

She has a B.A. in Interior Design. Jolene is excited to be apart of this project and looks forward to the chance to help these amazing animals
